• Athene

  Named after Athena, the goddess of wisdom, Athens saw the birth of democracy, drama, and the foundations of Western philosophy. Today it remains a fascinating city full of culture, excellent museums, ancient ruins such as the Acropolis and Parthenon, and lively stalls offering food and crafts.
  Though the 20th century buildings and smog can deter many, the city is well worth a visit before heading to outlying Greek islands.

• Heraklion

  Heraklion is the largest city and capital of Crete. It is also the fourth largest city in Greece. Heraklion is the capital of Heraklion Prefecture, with an international airport named after the writer Nikos Kazantzakis. The ruins of Knossos, which were excavated and restored by Arthur Evans, are nearby. Heraklion is an important shipping port and ferry dock. The public can take ferries and boats from Heraklion to a multitude of destinations including Thira, Rhodes, Egypt, Haifa and mainland Greece.

• Rhodes

  Rhodes is a Greek island approximately 18 kilometres  southwest of Turkey in eastern Aegean Sea. It is the largest of the Dodecanese islands in terms of both land area and population. Historically, Rhodes was famous worldwide for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The medieval Old Town of the City of Rhodes has been declared a World Heritage Site. Today Rhodes is a popular tourist destination.

• Thessaloníki

  Thessaloniki is the second-largest city in Greece and the capital of Macedonia, the nation's largest region. Thessaloniki is Greece's second major economic, industrial, commercial and political centre, and a major transportation hub for the rest of southeastern Europe; its commercial port is also of great importance for Greece and its southeast European hinterland. It has been traditional for the country's Prime Minister to set out his government's policies for each coming year in a speech at the annual Thessaloniki International Trade Fair.

• Delfoí

  Delphi is an archaeological site and a modern town in Greece on the south-western spur of Mount Parnassus in the valley of Phocis. Delphi was the site of the Delphic oracle, the most important oracle in the classical Greek world, and it was a major site for the worship of the god Apollo. His sacred precinct in Delphi was a Panhellenic sanctuary, where every four years athletes from all over the Greek world competed in the Pythian Games, the precursor to the Olympic Games.
